Blaine Dunkley | Film Loader

Blaine Dunkley is a NYC-based director of photography and Steadicam operator. He studied Media Arts at the University of Montana before relocating to Los Angeles and eventually New York City where he spent years as a lighting technician alongside top gaffers and directors of photography before stepping behind the camera full time.

As a director of photography, his credits include the pop-surrealist noir thriller The Blue Rose, the Netflix documentary series Heart of Invictus, and countless shorts, commercials, and music videos. His 2nd unit work on the wildlife crime documentary Tigre Gente earned the American Cinematographer Award at the 2022 Salem Film Festival. Equally active as a camera and Steadicam operator, he shoots live TV for NBC and MS Now — with work spanning The Today Show and Morning Joe — and has operated on numerous narrative features and shorts including Fault (A-Camera/Steadicam), The Next Play (A-Camera/Steadicam), and Our Bodies & Other Shames (Steadicam). His music credits include projects with Billie Eilish, Hozier, Elle King, Chappell Roan, and Muse.

Week One is the most personal film Dunkley has ever shot — a spontaneous collaboration he co-wrote with director Kevin Slack and actor Meredith Adelaide over milkshakes in Hollywood. Conceived and shot in a matter of days with a skeleton crew, it was captured entirely with available light on a RED Scarlet-W with Leica-R primes, improvising around shared experiences of grief.

When not on set, he can usually be found climbing, hiking, or by a river in the American West.
