Alexa Wolf | Camera Operator

Alexa Wolf (she/they) is a cinematographer and camera operator based primarily in New York City. Alexa’s interest in film began as a middle-schooler in Portola Valley, CA. After becoming obsessed with The Lord of the Rings – books, movies and DVD special features – she first learned that moviemaking was not only a career, but seemingly a fun one. Working her first production-assistant jobs before she could drive and taking every photography and film class available in her public schools, she was well on her way to a career in cinematography before she even knew what that was.

Alexa received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College, but her real education was off campus where she worked as a 1st AC and in the G&E departments of local productions. She even slid onto her first union sets working as a horse wrangler!

These connections drew Alexa to New York City post-graduation, where she has been ever since. Alexa’s vision and style as a cinematographer, as well as her on-set work ethic, owe much to her years crewing in the camera, grip and electric departments.

As a queer, female cinematographer whose interest in the craft stems from a deep childhood love for good stories, Alexa’s career has focused on features and shorts, though she also works regularly in commercials, music videos and documentaries. Her work has garnered many festival acceptances, awards and distribution domestically and abroad. She was a recipient of the ASC Vision Mentorship in 2020 (Robert Gantz, ASC) and the Local 600 Mentorship in 2023 and 2025 (Alexander Dynan; Jim Denault, ASC). Since 2021 Alexa has been a proud member of ICG Local 600.

Alexa’s passion for unique stories told from perspectives outside the mainstream led to her collaboration with Director Camille Hamadé on the film To Fade Away. The project was shot over only four days, on ALEXA Mini LF and Cooke S7s. The schedule was extraordinarily demanding given the requirements of a classically filmed period piece on a shoestring budget and would not have been possible without the extraordinary talent of the entire crew, both on set and in post.

Alexa continues to expand her career, focusing primarily on narrative features, and when not on set can be found wandering outside – backpacking, rock climbing and wondering why she thought it would be a good idea to bring along a bulky film camera.
