Josh Pickering | Camera Operator
Josh Pickering is a cinematographer and camera/Steadicam operator based in Dallas, TX.
Growing up, his passion for film was ignited in the mid-1980s after watching Raiders of the Lost Ark on VHS, a cinematic experience that sparked a lifelong pursuit of visual storytelling. Josh went on to receive his B.A. in Film and Digital Media from Baylor University. He started working on corporate, commercial and narrative projects soon afterwards. He joined Local 600 in 2016, which opened a whole new avenue of jobs, and his career has grown ever since. With a deep love for the craft, Josh is constantly evolving his skills and staying immersed in the art and technology of cinematography.
Boundless|Homeaid is a story about a young boy who tries to remember what home is after his family is evicted and he becomes separated from his mom and two older brothers. It was shot on ARRI Alexa 35, paired with Atlas Orion Anamorphics. Josh chose anamorphic for the project because it helped portray the small, tight-knit world the three brothers had, but also showed their expansive imaginations.
Lighting was achieved with a small package because of the crew size and tight schedule. Josh used a combination of Aputure 1200s, 600s and LiteMat panels. He utilized shaped natural light for outdoors and atmosphere for the interiors.
Josh has worked on a number of other projects with the director, Andrew Shebay. They are in preproduction on a feature that is currently slated to start in early 2026. When Josh isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, catering Texas BBQ and woodworking.
