One of the most respected and acclaimed cinematographers in the world, Rodrigo Prieto is known for his meticulous setups, unconventional camerawork, and rich use of color. He’s been nominated for four Academy Awards for his work on Brokeback Mountain, Silence, The Irishman, and Killers of the Flower Moon. Rodrigo’s filmography includes other notable films such as 8 Mile, Argo, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Barbie. Rodrigo is about to release his feature film directorial debut, an adaptation of Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo, which is considered one of the most revered Mexican Novels of the 20th century.
He had previously directed the short film Likeness starring Elle Fanning, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Rodrigo collaborates with some of the biggest names in film, including Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Oliver Stone, Greta Gerwig, Spike Lee and Alejandro González Iñárritu. His first collaboration with Iñárritu, Amores Perros (2000), is widely hailed as the cinematographer’s breakthrough, and spurred Rodrigo’s relocation from Mexico to Los Angeles. This movie, along with their next two projects, 21 Grams and Babel, are regarded as the three films that have led the renaissance of Mexican cinema.
He has also collaborated with Taylor Swift as his Director of Photography in several music videos and he’s been nominated in the latest one “Fortnight” to the VMA’S 2024.
