M. David Mullen, ASC studied filmmaking and cinematography at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where he received his MFA. Since then, he has photographed almost forty independent feature films, plus several television series and pilots.
He was nominated for the IFP Independent Spirit Award in 2000 for Twin Falls Idaho and again in 2004 for Northfork. He received two ASC Awards and three Emmys for his work on Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His television work also includes Big Love, The United States of Tara, Smash, Get Shorty, and Westworld, plus the pilot episodes of The Good Wife and Designated Survivor.
He co-authored the 3rd Edition of the classic textbook Cinematography by Kris Malkiewicz and was the co-editor of the 11th Edition of The American Cinematographer Manual.
